These phenomena can <br />be used as benchmarks that integrate the environmental health of the catchment if the <br />data are gathered systematically over long periods. Analysis of trends in such data can <br />reveal how leaky or unconnected the system may be and provide clear insights where <br />management actions can be effective in reconnecting the system.
