Most stations were identical to those used in

1963 and are detailed in Figure 2. Water te:nperature profiles and ~ater

chemical sa;r.ples \-iere ta~en each mo::th except in April when ~eather in~er-

fered and during Septemoer, October, and November due to mechanical troubles

on the \'iork boat. Chemical series 'dere performed in mucn the same pG.ttern

as the previous year. Sam?les \,jere obtained from near the surface, bottom,

in the ther~ocline, and ~here temperature patterns indica~ed that

additional sa~ples would be desirable for a better understanding. C~emical

analyses were conducted in accordance with standard techniques employed in

the fisheries field. In addition, in December selected sa:nples were sent

to an accredited laboratory for analysis of nitrates, phosphates) total

organic solids) and ash CO:1tent. The results of these analyses are

preseYlted in Table 2. Chemical tests performed at project headquarters

or in the field i:1cluded dissolved oxygen, pH, bicarbonal.e ,-u:d carbonate

alkaliYii ty, and hardness.
