I would like to thank my advisor, Dr. Eric Bergersen
for his advice and guidance throughout this study. His door
was always open and he invariably found the time to discuss
my research. My co-advisor, Dr. Clare Carlson provided
support and suggestions throughout the study. Committee
member Lynn Kaeding contributed valuable insights into the
study, our countless phone discussions greatly enhanced the
quality of the experiment. Dr. Thomas Keefe not only taught
me statistical methods, but as a committee member he also
ensured that I used them properly.
Biologists Doug Osmundson, Chuck McAda, and John
Andersen of the u.s. Fish and wildlife Service and Pat
Martinez and Tom Nessler of the Colorado Division of
wildlife assisted in collecting age-O Colorado squawfish.
Miles Moretti and his crew from the Utah Division of
wildlife Resources faithfully collected and froze age-O fish
from the Green River for use in my study. I also thank the
staffs of Willow Beach and Dexter NFH for supplying the fish
used in the laboratory experiment. Joan, Carol Ann, and

long hours of lipid analysis at the Colorado Division of
