<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />11 <br /> <br />Fish were subjected to three different feeding regimes. <br />Fish of each size class in three aquaria (9 aquaria total) <br />were fed dry pelleted trout food twice weekly at 2% of the <br />total biomass of fish present in the aquarium. Fish of each <br />size class in two aquaria (6 aquaria total) were not fed. <br />Fish in three additional aquaria (one per size class) were <br />fed live, newly hatched brine shrimp (Artemia sp.) ad <br />libitum daily. <br />On days 70 and 140 of the experimental period, <br />one-fourth of the surviving fish in. each aquarium were <br />removed, measured for total length and wet weight, and <br />frozen for later lipid analysis. On day 210, all remaining <br />fish were measured, weighed, and analyzed for lipids. <br />Throughout the 210-day experiment, both dead and dying fish <br />(those exhibiting loss of equilibrium or uncoordinated <br />swimming movements~ were removed daily, measured for length <br />and weight, and analyzed for lipid content. All fish <br />lengths were total lengths measured to the nearest <br />millimeter. Fish were patted dry on a paper towel and then <br />weighed to the nearest 0.01 g. Condition factor (K) was <br /> <br />calculated by the formula (Weatherley and Gill 1987) : <br /> W x 105 <br /> K = <br /> L3 <br />where W is weight in g, and L is length in mm. <br />
