LIFE ON GREEN RIVER
Dale Stewart

I was born in 1920 and raised in Jensen, Utah, on a ranch
located on the banks of the Green River.
Summertime meant hard work living on a ranch, but each
day when work was done, we would swim in our favorite swim-
ming hole. Sometimes we went skinny dipping in the Green River.
Also, in the years from 1935 to 1940 we did a lot of fishing
when we had time. Many a big fish was caught during that pe-
riod of time, by myself and many other people. The biggest one I
ever caught was a 261,.2 pound Colorado squawfish.
Wintertime meant the great sport of ice skating on the Green
River. A lake was also formed from the nearby run off from sev-
eral springs, forming Stewart Lake on the banks of the river.
This made an excellent place for ice skating, and was used by
many clubs and organizations for many years.
I think my life was blessed by living on the banks of the Green
River. I had a wonderful childhood, leaving me with many memo-
ries to carry a boy through life.

Skating on the Green River. Photo courtesy of author.

12
