<br />can expose larvae to other causes of mortality for
<br />longer periods. Potential causes of mortality in-
<br />clude water level fluctuation and wind wave-wave
<br />activity while larvae are still in the gravel. and food
<br />availability and predation once they have reached
<br />the swim-up stages. The effects of slower devel-
<br />opment on these causes of mortality, however, are
<br />unknown. Ikcause of the precarious situation of
<br />this species, more studies on the ecology of this
<br />species are needed to quantify causes of mortality
<br />and to understand which environmental factors
<br />may limit recruitment into the adult stock.
