pikeminnow Ptychocheilus lucius. The endangered fish were scanned for PIT tags (Prentice et

al. 1990) and if> 150 mm TL were tagged if no tag was found; river kilometer (rk) and habitat

data were recorded for humpback chub; all other species were counted. All native fish were

released alive. The raft electrofishing time refers to time logged on the GPP, i.e., time electrical

current was going through the water.

Angling was done in areas of known humpback chub concentration, often in whitewater

rapids where electrofishing was ineffective. The number of anglers ranged from five to nine.

Bait consisted mostly of Mormon crickets and earthworms. The numbers of humpback chub,

roundtail chub, and other species that were caught were recorded along with time spent angling.

Fish collections began two to three weeks after peak flow (Table 2). In 1998 three 5-d

sampling trips were conducted (two adult sampling trips and one seining trip to collect

juveniles). Each trip consisted of a crew of 8 or 9 people. The first trip was July 9-13.

Sampling consisted primarily of angling and electrofishing, but we also tried hoop netting. On

the first trip we used one electro fishing raft, but an equipment breakdown (VVP-15) curtailed the

electrofishing. The second trip was July 20-24, and sampling consisted primarily of

electro fishing with two rafts.

Two 5-d sampling trips were made in 1999. Each trip consisted of a crew of six or seven

people. The first trip was June 28-July 2 and consisted of two electrofishing rafts and angling.

The protocol was modified to capture only endangered fish while electrofishing. In addition to

these two trips, some humpback chub angling data were collected from a channel catfish

(lctalurus punctatus) removal study during late July and August.

Three 5-d sampling trips were made in 2000. The first was June 6-9 and was

4
