<br />, <br /> <br />FLOAT TRIP DOiIN THE GREEN RIVER FROM TEE GATES OF LODORE <br />TO SPLIT MOUNTAIN CAMPGROUND <br /> <br />June 26, 1~2 - 1 <br /> <br />Mayfly and Diptera larvae collected with squarefoot bottom-sampler <br />at Trailer- Draw and below Lower Disaster Falls. One dead carp about <br />12 inches long with a pronounced hump on its back was found washed <br />up'. u,pon a brush pile about 200 yards beloy Pot Creek. It was too <br />decomposed to preserve. <br /> <br />June 27 I 1962 - 2 <br /> <br />Mayfly, Coleoptera, D1ptera~ larvae collected at Pot creek Falls, <br />Hays Falls, and at the head of HBll's He.lf Mile with a s quarefoot <br />bottom sam,pler. <br /> <br />June 28 J 1962 - 3 <br /> <br />One adult stonefly collected in Hhirlpool Canyon. Mayfly, Caddis fly , <br />Diptera larvae taken near the mouth of Jones Creek. Hhat appeared to be <br />small reds ide shiners were taken near the mouth at the creek. They <br />were less than 1 inch long in most cases. One Green'lUver-'Spring <br />dace... three flannelmouth suckers, and. five cha.mel catfish were caught <br />near the mouth of the creek. One Colorado River squaw:f'ish was taken <br />with hook and line Just below the mouth of the creek. Preserved the <br />stomachs of two of the flannelmouth suckers and preserved the squawt'1sh. <br />(Jar containing squawfish was broken, 1-21-62). A carp was observed <br />swimming up into Jones Creek from the Green River. <br /> <br />June 29, 1962 - 4 <br /> <br />Walked to the headwaters of Jones Creek and looked at the proposed <br />hatchery site. Collected Cadd1sfly larvae, Diptera larvae, Na.yfly <br />larvae, and both larvae and adult stone flies . Jones Creek 1s approxi- <br />mately 5 miles long. Several springs combine to form a flow of about <br />32 second-feet. Two large carp and one sucker of unknown species were <br />observed several mlles u,p the creek. It appeared that high water had <br />scoured the bottom of the creek some time in the past (last January <br />or February). <br /> <br />June 30, 1962 - 5 <br /> <br />Floated from Jones Hole through Island Park and Split M>untain Canyon <br />to Spli.t MJuntain C~ound. No stops were made. Returned to Gates <br />of Lodore. <br /> <br />General - <br />The river was high and turbid. One boatman who had traveled the river <br />for the last six years said that the river was the highest he had ever <br />seen it. I found no stonefly larvae anywhere on the Green River, but <br />I did find a few adults. r could not take plankton samples because <br />the silt clogged the net. Numbers opposite dates indicates label <br />numbers of sample. <br /> <br />=12= <br />
