<br /> <br />September 17, 1962 <br /> <br />Mr. Banks covered over a mile of stream bank at the Split Mountain <br />campground. In addition to other dead fish he found two of the rare <br />humpback suckers. TIe observed some live fish in the ,area and recorded <br />the ir act ions . <br /> <br />Mr. Banks continued to Echo Park and observed the effects of the <br />poisonine; there. He cOlmted and measured a number of the dead fish <br />including two rare hybrid suckers and a single specimen of the humpback <br />chub (Gilncypha). He found a few channel catfish st 111 in distress. <br />Other species appeared to have been dead :for some time. <br /> <br />September 18, 19b2 <br /> <br />Mr. Banks continued on to Rainbow Park to record fish loss and to <br />make other observations. Most fish picked up there were flannel-mouth <br />suckers. Mont '-lere in a deteriorated condition but some were recently <br />dead. Several live fish were observed. <br /> <br />Mr. Banks walked along nearly two miles of stream in the Island <br />Park area.. He examined and measured fi..fty of the dead fish he found. <br />A single blue head mountain sucker was found in distress. Several dead <br />fish were observed :floating in the water. <br /> <br />September 20, 196~ <br /> <br />Mr. Banks returned to Fort Collins for consultation with Dr. Hagen. <br />Plans for his return to Dinosaur National Monument until mid-November <br />were made. Mr. Banks was able to secure employment in the Monument as <br />a laborer during this period. Superintendent Semingson provided the <br />opportunity for Hr. Banks to continue collections in his free time by <br />providing this job. <br /> <br />October 12 - l4, 1962 <br /> <br />Dr. Ragen traveled to Dinosaur National Monument to make necessary <br />arrangements with Park Service personnel for an extensive sampling <br />expedition to cover the same stations investigated in October of 1961. <br />Mr. Banks and Dr. Hagen visited several of the sites on the Green and <br />Yampa Rivers and made several preliminary observations and checks. <br /> <br />October 19 - 21, 1962 <br /> <br />Dr. Hagen returned to the Monument with l4 students in advanced <br />classes of fisheries science. The men were divided into two survey <br />parties. Crew No. 1 thoroughly sampled the stream sections in the <br />vicinity of Split Mountain Campground and for a distance dovmstream. <br />This team uhich ,.ms the largest group used an electric shOCking unit <br />along with gill nets and several sizes of seines. After sampling <br />intensively for more than four hours they continued on to Island Park <br />and spent approximately three hours of intensive sampling in that area. <br /> <br />= 3 = <br />
