Rosenfeld

Department of Biology

University of Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah 84112

Al though the morphologies of ~. robusta robusta and G. cypha

appear distinct and intermediate fish seem rare, as discerned

through principal components analysis, their genetic integrities

are questionable.

Hybridization may be (or may have been)

considerable as suggested through electrophoretic and cytogenetic

analyses. S~ecific status of ~. elegans relative to G. cypha is

suspect.

Box-truss and traditional morphometric data were used to examine

morphological variation among Upper Colorado River taxa: G,

,robusta robusta, q,. cypha, q,. elegans and q,. robusta seminuda.

Box-truss measures allow a complete survey of the body of a fish,

in contrast to traditional ones which concentrate about the

anterior part. Measurements were made with a digitizer from 3X5
