A recent study
(Simons, li and Associates 1983) indicated that major changes in flow
during low flow conditions would be needed to alter temperature and
sediment transport characteristics of the Colorado River.
The major impact of this project on Colorado squawfish is the cumu-
lative effect of the Green Mountain water depletion with that of
numerous oil sha1 e and other developments in the upper Colorado River
Basin. The Bureau of Rec1 amation has several projects under construc-
tion or in the planning stages, including Dolores, Dallas Creek,
Dom inquez, Gl enwood-Dotsero and Rued i Round II water sa 1 es. Private
developments incl ude Ridges Subd iv i si on, Homestake II, Batt1 ement Mesa
and Windy Gap. Other possible projects that would deplete upper
Colorado River flows are the Two Forks Project by the Denver Water Board
and Rock Creek Reservoir by the Colorado River Water Conservation
District. Oil shale projects include Getty, Conoco and Chevron, Cities,
Pacific, Union, Mobil, and others.
Tabl e 4 shows the potential cumul ative monthly depl etion for the
period 1962-1981 due to 14 of these other projects planned for the
Colorado River. These depletions were obtained from sources used in
past biological assessments, including Holden (1983), Woodward-Clyde
(1983), Camp, Dresser, and McKee (1983) and Holden et al. (1983). The
projects 1 isted are not all separate in that the Reudi Round II water
sales and Green Mountain water sales are both sales from existing pro-
jects. Reudi Round II sales include water for Mobil and other oil shale
projects that are also shown individually. Green Mountain includes
Union Oil, which also is shown separately. Therefore, some duplicity

- 36 -
