.

.

INTRODUCTION

.

This final report complies with provisions of a Memorandum of

Understanding between the State of Utah (acting through the Utah Board of

Water Resources), the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and the

.

U. S. Bureau of Land Management (ELM) to perform studies on the Colorado

s~uawfish (Ptychocheilus lucius) in the White River during 1982.

Four separate but interrelated objectives were established for the

.

study. These objectives were to: (1) implant radio transmitters in

adult Colorado s~uawfish and follow their movements until 30 November;

(2) systematically sample all river habitats with electrofishing e~uip-

.

ment, trammel nets and seines above and below the proposed dam site,

focusing on capturing all sizes of Colorado s~uawfish; (3) intensively

sample for larval and young-of-the-year (YOY) Colorado s~uawfish with

.

seines and small hand nets; and (4) conduct detailed physical measure-

ments (PHABSIM) of a suspected spawning site using standard IFG4

techni~ues.

This report presents and discusses data collected for each of the

.

above objectives between 10 May and 30 November 1982. Information
.
presented will be used to help fulfill conservation measures for the

Colorado s~uawfish as cited in the White River Dam Project 1982

.

Biological Opinion.

.

.
