e

Table 3b. Canyonlands Reach Cross Sections - Scour and Fill Cycle

Cross Section Net Change in Bed Comments
Numberl Elevation
MCBI Net fill. Most of the cross section filled 3 to 4 ft. The thalweg is slightly deeper (2 ft).
During the high flow the thalweg move towards the left bank.
MCB2 No net change. Normal bed variation of several feet across the entire channel.
MCB3 Net fill. Most of the bed experience 1 to 2 ft of deposition.
MCB4 Net fill. Thalweg developed along right bank with 7 ft of scour. The center of the channel
tilled with about 5 ft of sand bar deposit.
MCB5 Net fill. 1 to 2 ft of fill in the main channel. Slight scour in the small left channel (2 ft).
Deposition on the center island (1 to 2 ft).
VAB6 Net fill. Slight scour on the left half of the channel (1 to 3 ft). Sand deposition in the right
thalweg (4 to 5 ft).
V AB 6.5 Net fill. Thalweg developed during peak, channel filled after peak for a net change of about
1 ft. Uniform channel shape.
VAB7 Net fill. Fill across most of the channel (1 to 2 ft). Large sand deposits during peak flow.
VAB8 No net change. Large thalweg scour at peak flows (11 ft). Filled in to original bed level on falling
limb.
VAB9 Slight net fill. Slight sand deposits along bar. Some sediment deposit on the vegetated bar on the
left side of channel.
UNB 10 Net scour. Center channel scoured 4 ft. Thalweg filled 5 ft. Sand deposit (2 ft) on vegetated
bar along left bank.
UNB 11 Net scour. Uniform bed scour of 2 ft.
ANBl2 No net change. Some scour and fill in the channel. Thalweg was filled during peak.
ANB 13 No net change. Some slight scour and fill.
ANB 14 Net scour. Center channel scour (5 ft) after peak flows.
QAB 15 No net change. Thalweg flip-flopped from along the right bank to left bank at almost same bed
elevation (7 to 9 ft of scour and fill).
QAB 16 Slight net fill. Split channel with slight sand deposits in each. 1 ft of deposit on vegetated island.
. Deep thalweg during peak flow (9 ft of scour and ftll).
QAB 17 Net scour. Extreme scour during peak flow (23 ft). Fill on falling limb of hydro graph (11 ft).
Net scour was 12 ft along right bank.
QAB 18 No net change. Strong bedrock control.
BVB 19 Slight fill. 1 ft offill along left bank. No change of bed elevation over center cobble bar. Fill
in main channel (7 ft).

e

e

25
