Again, since the values are mean monthly, there probably are periods during these months that
daily flows exceed 12,000 cfs. In recorded history, flows in April do not exceed the 12,000 cfs
flow rate by a large margin. Table 2 summarizes the increased access to historic habitat which
would have been provided by the construction of the fish passage structure. As discussed above,
possible flow enhancement options will increase the percentage of time minimum passage flows
are available.
Table B-2 - Passage with and without a fish passage structure
using data for the period 1930 - 1986
Percentage of time passage would have been
Percent of time passage would possible if there had been a fish ladder without any
Month have been possible historically flow enhancements
April 0% 100%
May 18% 100%
June 37% 100%
July 5% 93%
August 0% 64%
September 0% 35%
October 0% 67%
November 0% 100%
Water Supply for Upstream Fish Passage Structures
The potential design for the fish passageways at the abandoned Price-Stubb Dam, located 3 miles
upstream from the GVIC Diversion Dam, and for the Grand Valley Project Diversion Dam,
located 8.5 miles upstream from the GVIC Diversion Dam, would require passageway flows
similar to the requirement for the GVIC Diversion Dam passage (see frontispiece map). These
dams are considered complete barriers to fish movement at all flows.
Price-Stubb Dam
The Price-Stubb Dam is an abandoned facility previously used by the Mesa County and Palisade
Irrigation Districts. Under most water supply conditions, flows in the section of river between the
Price-Stubb Dam and the GVIC Diversion Dam should be adequate to supply the 640 cfs GVIC
Diversion Dam requirement. A portion of the water supply for the GVIC can be provided
through the operation of the Orchard Mesa check. This water decreases the flow requirement in
B-5
