Summstry of Responses
CDOW LMP'S

OVERVIEW

Lake Management Plans (LMP's) for McPhee Reservoir in the Southwest Region and 11 waters
in the Northwest Region were distributed to interested parties in the fall of 1994 to solicit public
review. Analyses of public comment represents the third phase of a multi-step process as
prescribed by the Interim Procedures for Stocking Nonnative Fish Species in the Upper Colorado
River Basin. A summary of responses provided to the CDOW is provided in this document.

The respondents are divided into the following groups:

Federal and State Government Agencies 3
Environmental Organizations 2
Sportsmens Groups 2
Individuals ~
Total Responses 11

A complete list and copy of responses is provided at the conclusion of this report.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSES

Responses from government agencies and environmental organizations were technical and
contained detailed comments on proposed stocking and related issues. Comments from
sportsmens groups and individuals were more general in nature and consistent with their primary
interests. A sample of common positive and negatives responses to the LMP's is provided in
Tables 1 and 2.

As the information in these tables indicates, there were several common concerns and opinions
expressed by respondents. Concern about escapement potential and the need to delineate the 50-
yr. floodplain were cited by several respondents as important issues. More detail in screening
measures to reduce escapement was also cited as a need to improve LMP's. Most respondents
indicated some measure of support for select waters in the .event these concerns could be
adequatelyaddressed.

Respondents clearly in support of LMP's indicated an interest in sportfishing and angling
diversity. Specific mention was made of choice of species to be stocked in individual comments
and respondents indicated the desire for warmwater fishing opportunities in western Colorado.

1
