.

INTRODUCTION SITE EVALUATION

Selection Process
At the March 1993 Colorado Wildlife Commission meeting, the CDOW Aquatic staff was
directed to evaluate the potential for stocking tiger muskie into two waters in the Northwest
Region and two waters in the Southwest Region. Detailed evaluation criteria to identify
candidate waters were subsequently developed (Appendix E). While numerous criteria have
been evaluated, primary considerations include:

.

.

1.

.

Impacts related to recovery of threatened and endanl!ered fish species. and
maintenance of native nsh soecies. Eliminate waters from consideration which
contain threatened and endangered species. Also, avoid waters where escapement
of tiger muskie may impact off-site threatened and endangered fishes or other
native fish speCies.

2. Protect existin~ sport fISheries - avoid waters where tiger muskie may adversely
impact existing sportfish populations on-site or through escapement.

.

3. Sport fIShery potential - Select waters with suitable habitat and satisfactory
populations of prey for tiger muskie. Identify waters where establishment of tiger
mus19.e will provide enhanced recreational opportunities and increased angler use.

Evaluated Waters

On the basis of these factors and further evaluation criteria described in Appendix E, nine

waters have been evaluated for tiger muskie stocking (Table 2).

Table 2.
