Therefor I ask you to reconsider your proposal and put our citizens first as they should be.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

March 4, 1998

TO: U. S. Fish & Wildlife

FROM: Larry E. Hammer
2995 Brookwood Ct.
Grand Junction, Co., 81504
(970) 245-7801

This letter is to serve as NOTICE OF DISAPPROVAL regarding your intention to flood the
Colorado River! Anyone who lives here already knows the river is quite capable of flooding on
its own WITHOUT help.

I cannot imagine what our Government hopes to achieve by destroying peoples property
and homes for a sucker or any other fish. Almost every spring, the river comes out of its banks
and has to be monitored closely. There have been several years when the river rose so high, it
closed 1-70 west ofFruita and the traffic had to be rerouted on the old highway. We have spent
millions of dollars on developing the Riverfront Trail System which runs from Grand Junction to
the Utah Border. All of this would be washed downstream, leaving an eye-sore behind.

I wonder what the Governments plan would be IF the people behind this lived in the areas. It
is easy to do something to someone else but it is different when YOU are affected. Think about
it! All it takes is COMMON SENSE!!
