Although gut <br />folding begins only a little later in razorback <br />larvae than in bluehead larvae, it slows during <br />the metalarval phase. As a result, the upper <br />end of the size range for razorback sucker at <br />transition to gut phase 4 overlaps the lower <br />end of the range for tlannelmouth sucker. <br /> <br />The size at first appearance of the full <br />series of lateral scales roughly correlates with <br />scale size. The full lateral series of scales <br /> <br />appears as early as 24 mm SL for Utah suc- <br />ker and 29 mm SL for white sucker, both of <br />which have large scales. But it appears no <br />earlier than 39 mm SL for tlannelmouth that <br />has very fme scales. <br /> <br />Meristies aod morphometries: Some <br />character differences determined by compar- <br />ison of species account summaries of meris- <br />ties and morphometries are not included in <br />Tables 2 and 3 because corresponding data <br />for an adjacent phase indicate that the differ- <br />ences might not hold up if additional speci- <br />mens in the size range of concern are anal- <br /> <br />24 <br />
