Acknowledgments

I thank the many associates and others who contributed time and effort to this project.
Steve Braylee, Dan Brauch, Kevin Rogers, Kevin R. Bestgen, Dan Beyers, Nick Bezzerides,
Marian Allen, Koreen A. Zelasko, Bobby I. Compton, Sean C. Seal, and, most successfully,
Kenneth Kehmeier and crew assisted with efforts to capture ripe longnose sucker for culture
(scientific collection and use permitted under Colorado State License 01-AQ902). With
approval of the university's Animal Care and Use Committee (Animal Welfare Assurance
Number A3572-01, Protocol Number 00-313A-Ol), Sean C. Seal reared and preserved
developmental series for description of longnose sucker along with specimens previously reared
by Edmund 1. Wick or collected by Bob Burdick and crew. C. Lynn Bjork, Diane L. Miller, and
Sean C. Seal assisted with descriptive analysis of specimens. Sean C. Seal cleared and stained
specimens for skeletal study and captured digital images for illustration of skeletal features. 1. R.
Tomelleri granted permission to reproduce his drawing of an adult longnose sucker. C. Lynn
Bjork drew the larvae and juveniles, original illustrations used in the key, and the base map for
distribution. Dan Brauch, Pat Martinez, Randy Radant, F. 1. Rahel, R. Remmick, and R.
Schneidervin provided information on distribution. Michael 1. Dallwitz assisted with the initial
version of the computer-interactive keys and provided periodic guidance in the use of Intkey and
other DELTA programs. Robert T. Muth co-authored most of the descriptions on which the key
is based (Snyder and Muth 1990). Sean C. Seal assisted with preparation ofthe data set for the
key, and he, Tasha Sorenson, and other Larval Fish Laboratory (LFL) staff test-used interim and
near-final versions of the key. Sean C. Seal and Maryann B. Snyder proof-read and Kevin R.
Bestgen and John A. Hawkins reviewed the draft final report prior to submission to the Recovery
Program.
This project (Recovery Program Project 112) was funded by the U.S. Department of the
Interior Bureau of Reclamation (Upper Colorado Regional Office, Salt Lake City, Utah; Contract
0-FC-40-0891O) on behalf of the Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program. It
is the conclusion of a jointly sponsored study initiated with the support of the Colorado
Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife (Denver, Colorado; MOU-CSU-689-1;
Snyder 2001). The Recovery Program is a joint effort of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Western Area Power Administration, states of Colorado, Utah, and
Wyoming, Upper Basin water users, erivironmental organizations, the Colorado River Energy
Distributors Association, and the National Park Service.

Disclaimer

Mention of trade names or commercial products does not constitute endorsement or
recommendation for use by the author, the Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Department of
Interior, or members of the Recovery Implementation Program.

Suggested Citation

Snyder, D.
