British Columbia, Canada <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Several small flood control reservoirs are to be constructed on the <br />Yampa River, one at Cross Mountain and one at Juniper. These reservoirs <br />will impose changes on the flow and sediment regime of the river which <br />wi 11 tin turn, cause changes to the stream channe 1. More speci fi ca 11y, <br />this study is concerned with short and long term changes to the follow- <br />ing stream characteristics: <br /> <br />1. Meander pattern, <br /> <br />2. Channel configuration, <br />3. Substrate materi a 1 t and <br /> <br />4. Pool-riffle sequence. <br /> <br />The reaches that are treated in detail are the Box Elder Reach and <br />the Lily Park Reach which are located 2 miles and 52 miles from the <br />confluence with Green River. respectively. <br /> <br />In order to assess the short and long term changes to vari ous <br />river characteri st i cs, severa 1 1 eve 1s of study shoul d be undertaken. <br />For the Yampa River, the levels of study proceed as follows. <br /> <br />level 1. Preliminary aRpraisal of river processes. <br /> <br />level 2. Assessment of the scope of the problem. <br /> <br />Level 3. Additional data requirements. <br /> <br />level 4. Analysis of river processes and prediction of changes. <br /> <br />The forthcoming comments will treat each of the above levels. <br /> <br />PRELIMINARY APPRAISAL OF RIVER PROCESSES <br /> <br />A preliminary appraisal can only be undertaken if the following <br />data are available. <br /> <br />Topographic maps <br /> <br />Geologic maps <br /> <br />21 <br />
