Colorado-Utah state line is about.7 34 x 108 m3-E595,100 acre-feet/,

.

Taylor Draw Dam (Fig. 3) was completed in 1984, and is located in northwestern

'm'\\e 'fen 9b
Colorado at approximately river kilometer (fkm)~, as measured upstream from the

confluence with the Green River. Taylor Draw Reservoir has a storage volume of.l4

ClII e[!.~ e
xl07 In3 (13,800 acre-feetr,-which is less than 3% of the total volume ofthe^annual

streamflow. The dam i3' primarily operated as a run-of-the-river project where discharges
0(' splll Let
released/rom the dam equal the inflow to the reservoir. The reservoir is used primarily

for recreation and supplies little to no water for irrigation.

Just downstream from the dam, the White River enters a broad alluvial valley.
15 I11lles
For the next 2-:S-km, the river flows through a valley where bedrock outcrops on opposite
0.. 9 I,J. fIIlf15 .
valley sides are between kS- andZkm apart. The river's slope is 0.0014 (Fig. 4) as it cuts

a meandering course between outcrops of the Cretaceous Mancos Shale on the north, and

the Tertiary Unita formation on the south. Several oxbow lakes occur on the flood plain

in the upstream and downstream portions of this reach, and mid-channel islands are
o\&-lVlile Co\ 0 rctclDJ
spaced at approximately -l--JeB intervals. The town of Rangelr"is located at

approximately the center of this reach.
. . The valley width narrows to
I/t- 1/& mlle
between 9-4and {).S kIn and the channel's increased gradient is 0.0030, which is
3 rYI t'le.s
maintained for the next s-km.

Between rlan 120 and 60, the river passes through a canyon cut into the Green

River formation. Valley widths range from 0.15 to 0.6 kIn, and the overall slope is

0.0013. River gradient within this canyon is steepest between the Colorado state line and

7
