identified as a species- of special concern by the State of Wyoming
(Johnson 1987).

Currently, relatively little information is available concerning the
life history, behavior, and ecology of flannelmouth suckers. Considering
the precarious balance of native fishes in the Colorado River System,
where the water supply is already overallocated and subject to legal
manouvering between states, information should be collected about this
species before declines become more serious. In the present study, we
focused on the early development of flannelmouth suckers reared at the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service experimental hatchery located on the Green
River at Ouray National Wildlife Refuge, UT, and monitored thyroid
hormone levels in eggs and larvae.

2

,.

I
:1
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
