Exact lo- <br />cation of the station was bascd on fea- <br />tures in the fi)fe!Sround ledge. The view <br />is to the southwest, toward the Butte <br />of the Cross. <br />The fi)reground bench and other <br />light-colored, low-lying rocks arc the <br />White Rim Sandstone Member of the <br />Cutler formation. In the middle dis- <br />tance beyond the river bend, the first <br />low ledge above the White Rim is the <br />Hoskinnini Member of the Moenkopi <br />Forma tion, s u rmou n t ed by a series of <br />low blufls and spurs of the Moenkopi's <br />middle Icd!Se-forming member. The <br />broad base of the Butte of the Cross is <br />f()rmed by the upper slope-forming <br />member of the Moenkopi, here <br />bleached to a light tan. An upper lcdge- <br />forming unit of the Moenkopi caps the <br />light-colored slopes. The nextlcdge up <br />is the basal sandstone of the Chinle <br />Formatioll. vVingau' Sandstone capped <br />by the Kayenta Formation f()rms the <br />arms and the ur>right of the cross. <br />Other dins and buttes of Wingate <br />capped by Kayenta can be seen behind <br />the cross to ils righl and Ieli. Navajo <br />Sandstone f()rrns the skyline on the ex- <br />tn'me right of the pictures and also a <br />small car-shaped point just to the left <br />of the Butte of the Cross.
