Labyrinth Canyon
Camera Station 728

This camera station IS also on the
south bank, on the same ridge as the
last but about a mile upstream rrom
Trin-Alcove Bend. 'I'll(' view is up-
stream to the north-northwest. Loca-
tion or the camera station was based
on sandstone points in the roregrollnd,
bu t Stephens's camcra was onset
slightly along the line or sight in order
to show the rim or the c1ifl' in proper
p('rspective. Delicate features on the
c1ifl' rim appear to be virtually un-
changed.
\Ve do see significant changes along
the west (left) bank or the river. The
present bank extends much brther out
into the river over what \\'as once an
island, and the large bars arc mostly
gone. The east bank may have been
eroded back slightly near the right edg('
or the picture.
'I'll!' canyon walls arc cut elltirdy in
Navajo Sandstone. High-level terrace
gravellc)I'ms a distinct dark moundjust
back rrom the rim or the right canyon
wall, and it also occurs on a 10\\', dark
ledge just back fi'oll1 the edge orthe lelt
wall.
011 the ,skyliIH' on the Ieli is a series
or Entrada SandslOl\e dills and blulls.
The Entrada and the Carmel Fonna-
tion can also be seen just above the
Navajo near the center or ollr picturc.
