'I'll(' view is up- <br />stream to the north-northwest. Loca- <br />tion or the camera station was based <br />on sandstone points in the roregrollnd, <br />bu t Stephens's camcra was onset <br />slightly along the line or sight in order <br />to show the rim or the c1ifl' in proper <br />p('rspective. Delicate features on the <br />c1ifl' rim appear to be virtually un- <br />changed. <br />\Ve do see significant changes along <br />the west (left) bank or the river. The <br />present bank extends much brther out <br />into the river over what \\'as once an <br />island, and the large bars arc mostly <br />gone. The east bank may have been <br />eroded back slightly near the right edg(' <br />or the picture. <br />'I'll!' canyon walls arc cut elltirdy in <br />Navajo Sandstone. High-level terrace <br />gravellc)I'ms a distinct dark moundjust <br />back rrom the rim or the right canyon <br />wall, and it also occurs on a 10\\', dark <br />ledge just back fi'oll1 the edge orthe lelt <br />wall. <br />011 the ,skyliIH' on the Ieli is a series <br />or Entrada SandslOl\e dills and blulls. <br />The Entrada and the Carmel Fonna- <br />tion can also be seen just above the <br />Navajo near the center or ollr picturc. <br />To the right, the distant Beckwith <br />Plateau and Roan Clills and the eastern <br />
