<br /> <br />Sefitemher 4, Ifl71, eady afternoon <br /> <br />1 rv1 <br /> <br />FOURTH SE(;MENT <br /> <br />Green River <br />Camera Station 585 <br /> <br />These pictures show Dellen baughs <br />Butte, on the cast bank or the Green <br />about fClUr miles above the mouth or <br />the San RaCtcl River. The location or <br />our station was based on parallax <br />among various features on the butte <br />and is probably accurate to within <br />about five feet. <br />The hutte displays ahout two <br />hundred reet or the geologic section. <br />Beginning just above river level, the <br />uppermost fifteen ffTt or the Entrada <br />Sandstone fC)fms the low dillS seen in <br />gaps between the hushes. The overly- <br />ing cliff and the slope above it are gray <br />sandstone and shale or the Curtis For- <br />mation. In the higher dill; we see al- <br />most 150 ket or redd ish- brown to <br />brown shale, mudstone, and sandstone <br />or the Sumrnervillc Formation, which <br />is close to its maximurn thickness here. <br />The Salt \Vasll Member or Ihe Morri- <br />son Formal ion (cJrms I he uppermost <br />slope and the small cap at the very top, <br />part or which appears to hav(' bl'Oken <br />offsince IB7l. <br />.JlIst above the river bank arc low, <br />partly stabilized rnodern dunes. Those <br />on the right have heen eroded by the <br />river since Powell's expedition, hut <br />lho,s(' on the left appe;lr 10 he abolllthe <br />same today. <br />
