However, with this
preliminary data set, population changes could not be attributed to levee removal activities. The
exception to this was the river reach adjacent to Old Charlie Wash in 1997. Old Charlie Wash
was drained in the fall of 1997 resulting in an increase of nonnative fish captured in the adjoining
river reach. This higher number of nonnatives in the river was not sustained and the numbers
returned to previous levels the following spring.
It is recommended that the study continue. Trends will become more apparent with
additional years of data. It is also recommended that: razorback suckers are introduced into the
sites for evaluation, sites are reconfigured to improve entrainment of sucker larvae, and
nonnative fish data from all relevant studies be integrated into future analysis.
LIST OF KEY WORDS
Green River, floodplain, primary productivity, secondary productivity, nonnative fish, native
fish, razorback sucker, wetland, larval fish, habitat

xviii
