An additional illustration of the overall importance of wildlife among
the resources of the region is revealed by the following comparison
of key habitat with the total land area of the region. The area of
key habitat, based on a measurement of habitat areas for only those
species shown on the two preceding tables, appears as an extensive
overlapping web of wildlife lands covering the entire region except
for gaps attributable to certain alpine areas, agricultural developments,
and barren lands.

Subregion and Key Habitat Total Land Area
State (l,OOO's of acres)
Green River
Colorado 4,495 6,753
Utah 4,628 10,884
Wyoming 8,128 13 , 365
Subtotals 17,251 31,002
Upper Main Stem
Colorado 10,003 14,128
Utah 1,723 2,573
Subtotals 11,726 16,701
San Juan-Colorado
Arizona 1,289 4,421
Colorado 2,482 3,701
New Mexico 3,424 6,218
Utah 5,023 10,191
Subtotals 12,218 24,531
Totals 41,195 72,234

Total man-days of hunting in 1965 were 1,268,500.
