Analysis of U.S. Geological Survey Stream Gaging Notes: Ice Cover
Appendix C)
Stream gaging notes also describe ice cover conditions at the time of
measurements. Measurements are typically only made once per month, and thus the
observations of ice conditions do not permit establishment of the maximum duration of
ice cover. Nevertheless, these observations do permit estimates of large-scale changes
in ice cover conditions.
Development of a Geographically-Referenced Channel Geomorphology Data
Base (Appendix D)
Air photos of the Green River between Echo Park and the Colorado River at low
discharge in 1963 were obtained for this project. This photo series, printed.at a scale
of about 1:2000 scale is on loan from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Price. The
photos were discovered in the old warehouse at Sand Wash, UT.
Maps were made from these photos distinguishing about 15 different units. Of

bars, and different topographic levels on exposed sand bars. These data provide an
unparalleled picture of the conditions of the Green River at the time of closure of
Flaming Gorge Dam. Physiographic and cultural points were located on the photos which
were referenced to available 1:24000 scale topographic maps. Maps were digitized into
an Arc-Info data base, along with the match points. These data now represent a geo-
referenced data base about geomorphic conditions throughout the Green River at the time
of dam closure.

Development of a Comprehensive Geomorphic Data Base for the Green
River (Appendix E)
Topographic and physiographic measurements of the Green River were obtained
from 1:24000 scale topographic maps. These data, along with analysis of geologic maps,
were used to develop a data base of geomorphic conditions.
