They were then
shipped to the lab.
All samples, except muscle plugs, were analyzed at Geochemical &
Group for selenium using Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption. Qi
control was provided by the Patuxent Analytical Control Facility.
Results and Discussion
4-?4 RO-COKANUT 9 004
in Whirl Paks®,
in a freezer until
ivironmental Research
ity assurance and quality
There were a total of 8 sampling periods in Stewart Lake during 199 , beginning in April and
ending in August. Figure 1 shows the sampling events correlated wi approximate Green River
flows. In FY98, 49 whole-body fish, 2 bird eggs, 1 muscle plug and invertebrate samples were
collected for selenium analysis at various sites throughout Stewart L e (Table 1). Appendix B
shows the species composition, location and date of capture of whole body fish in Stewart Lake.
In addition to collections made in Stewart Lake, collections were
August (Figure 2). These collections included at least 3 fish sam
Escalante Bar, above Stewart Lake, downstream approximately e
Wildlife Refuge (Table 2). These fish were weighed, measured, pit
tagged (if scanner was available) and had a muscle plug taken. Fish total length ranged from 405
mm to 649 mm. For PIT tags there were 2 recaptures, 2 new captur sand 3 unknowns. As of
January 1999, results of selenium analysis in muscle plugs have not en received from the lab.
2In 1998 the Names of Fishes Committee proposed replacing
name squawfish with
pikeminnow (Nelson et. al., 1998).
