8
® GENERAL
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Efforts are being made to make the activities of the
NFWG more widely know and to promote additional public and agency ,
support. Public Television station in Tucson, Arizona has filmed and is
planning to air a segment concerning the project on Public Television during
February. Also Reclamation has produced a 13 minute video, a poster display
and brochure outlining the goals of the project. These are available for
viewing or display upon request. NPS incorporated the project into their r
interpretive program. An information box with brochures was installed at
Davis Cove.
OUTLOOK FOR 1993
The future still holds many challenges. Efforts will continue at Yuma Cove
to spawn and rear suckers on site while Dexter National Fish Hatchery will
produce additional fish. The control of aquatic weeds at Yuma Cove will be t
a priority goal. Plans have been made to line a portion of the pond while
®
alternative plans are being developed to use herbicides should the liner fail.
Next year promises to be another busy but rewarding year. Spawning and
rearing efforts will continue at Yuma Cove focussing on increasing production
and examining genetic diversity. Davis Cove will continue to receive suckers
from DNFII and Yuma Cove with additional stocking of chubs. We anticipate
the stocking of several hundred subadult (12") bonytail chub and razorback
suckers dependent upon predation inside the cove. This represents the
accomplishment of 2 of our 3 goals: 1) on-site sucker spawning and 2) sucker
growth to 12 inches. These efforts will continue while the last phase of the
effort will determine if subadult fish survive and reach adulthood in the
reservoir.
J
