ACKNOWLEDGMENTS <br />The authors wish to thank those who participated in this project. Mike <br />Baker, Kathy Holley, Chuck McAda, Mike Montagne, Toby Mourning, and Doug <br />Osmundson assisted in fish sampling. Dan Crabtree, Bureau of Reclamation, Grand <br />Junction, Colorado, provided engineering support and coordinated the construction <br />and excavation of the connection channel at Gardner Pond. Steve McCall, Bureau <br />of Reclamation, Grand Junction, was responsible for conducting NEPA compliance. <br />Both Dan and Steve obtained the necessary county, state, and federal permits. <br />This included a fl oodpl ai n permit from Mesa County, a NPDES discharge permit from <br />the State of Colorado, Department of Health, and a 404 permit from the U. S. Army <br />Corps of Engineers. Blake Bailey, Burt Ives, Bob Levine, and Ted Juntilla, <br />Bureau of Reclamation, Grand Junction, provided surveying support. <br />The State of Colorado, Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation, owner of <br />property surrounding Gardner Pond, and Mr. C. W. Van Wagner, owner of the area <br />around Hotspot Pond at 29-5/8 Road, permitted access to the site. Ed Gardner, <br />Whitewater Building Materials, Corp., Grand Junction, coordinated and facilitated <br />agreements with Kurt Mill of the Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation and <br />with Colorado Mined Land Reclamation. Pat Nelson, floodplain habitat restoration <br />coordinator for the Recovery Program, Denver, Frank Pfeifer, Fish and Wildlife <br />Service, and Bob Norman, Bureau of Reclamation, Grand Junction, provided <br />administrative support.
