Survival of pond and raceway fish in this experimental group was significantly
(P < 0.05; day 195 raceway: X2=7.68; day 195 pond: X2=8.53; day 343 raceway:
X2=6.65, X205, df=1, 5.02) less than fish in the control group in three of six
instances at the three observation periods (Appendix; Table 10).
PIT Tag: o~dy Cavity. The performance of PIT tags implanted in this
anatomical location was similar to those reported in this study for squawfish and
razorback sucker. Though survival was greater for fish held in the raceway than
the pond throughout the evaluation period, survival of pond and raceway fish was
not significantly (P > 0.05) different from each respective control group. For
surviving fish, tag verification at each observation period was 100% (Appendix;
Table 10)(Figure 5). At day 511, tag verification of surviving pond bonytail
tagged in the body cavity was significantly greater than fish PIT tagged in the
dorsal musculature (X2=1$.04, X205, df=1, 5.02). Tag verification was not
significantly different (P > 0.05) for raceway fish PIT tagged in the dorsal
musculature and body cavity (Appendix; Table 10).
V. I. T~ca Tag verification throughout the study was greater than for the
other two species tested. Tag verification was 56% and 53% for pond and raceway
fish, respectively, on day 195 (Appendix; Table 10). Tag verification remained
static for fish held in the raceway during the study (41% at day 343 and 44% at
day 511); no tags were verified for pond fish at day 343 and day 511 (Appendix;
Table 10)(Figure 5). Survival of experimental fish both in the pond and raceway
was greater than the control groups. As for the other two species, additional
testing on larger fish (e. g., 150 mm minimum) is recommended before this tag can
be a considered as a reliable identification marker for bonytail.
Carlin Dangler Tag. Tag verification was low for both pond and raceway
fish. At day 343, tags were verified on only 1 of 4 pond fish; no tags were
20
