Additionally, it was taken at 22 of the 87 (25%) sample sites in
1988 compared with only 4 of 98 (4%) in 1987. A likely
explanation for the increased number of these hybrids in the 1988
sample is an improved ability on the part of the field crew to
discern the sometimes subtle characteristics which are used to
identify hybrids.
The rate of capture remained relatively constant during our
1988 survey (Table 7). As in 1987, flannelmouth and bluehead
suckers were caught at the highest rates (86 fish/hour and 40
fish/hour, respectively), followed by common carp (18 fish/hour),
and channel catfish (15 fish/hour). In 1987 and 1988, the
October electrofishing trips were the most productive.
Trammel net samples
Only 98 specimens represented by five species were taken in
these nets on the six occasions that they were set (Table 8).
Flannelmouth and bluehead suckers dominated these samples,
comprising 98% (n=93) of the total catch. Common carp and black
bullhead were each represented by one specimen, while three
channel catfish were also taken.
18
