I f.
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this investigation was to examine the stomach con-
tents of young of the year and juvenile endangered and young of the year
and adult non-endangered fish species collected by the Colorado River
Fisheries Project Team (CRFP) from several strata in the upper Colorado,
Green, and Gunnison Rivers (Figure 1). Food contents were identified
and quantified numerically and by weight to determine food item preference
by fish species and if food item preferences were significantly different
between endangered and non-endangered fish species.
A total of 771 stomachs was examined from three size categories of
11 species of fish. Three endangered fish species were Ptychocheilus
lucuis, Gila robusta, and Gila sp. and eight non-endangered species were
Rhinichthys osculus, Catostomus latipinnis, Catostomus discobolus,
Pimephales promelas, Notropis stramineus, Notropis lutrensis, Ictalurus
punctatus. and an unidentified killifish (Table 1).
n
