Each monitoring reach was divided into five-mile subreaches. Investigators began at the
upstream portion of the monitoring reach and sampled the first two backwaters meeting
ISMP criteria that they encountered. Each backwater was sampled with two seine hauls.
No additional backwaters were seined until the next five-mile subreach. Samples were
not taken unless a backwater meeting the criteria was encountered. 7
