1
LIST OF FIGURES
Figure Page
L Reaches sampled during the YOY Colorado squawfish portion of the Interagency
Standardized Monitoring Program. 3
2. Schematic representing sampling protocol for the YOY Colorado squawfish portion of
the Interagency Standardized Monitoring Program (shaded areas represent seine hauls).
Each monitoring reach was divided into five-mile subreaches. Investigators began at the
upstream portion of the monitoring reach and sampled the first two backwaters meeting
ISMP criteria that they encountered. Each backwater was sampled with two seine hauls.
No additional backwaters were seined until the next five-mile subreach. Samples were
not taken unless a backwater meeting the criteria was encountered. 7
3. Plots of total number and total surface area of backwaters within ISMP reaches as
determined by aerial video, versus mean-daily streamflow (mean during video-
collection period) at the nearest USGS stream gauge, 1989 to 1991. 11
4. Relationship between total number of YOY Colorado squawfish (Total CPE
(fish/m) x Total Backwater Area (m)) and Geometric-Mean CPE of Colorado
squawfish by 10-mile subreaches within ISMP reaches 1 and 2 in the Colorado
River, 1989 to 1991. 14
5. Relationship between total number of YOY Colorado squawfish (Total CPE
(fish/m2) x Total Backwater Area (m)) and Geometric-Mean CPE of Colorado
squawfish by 10-mile subreaches within ISMP reaches 3 and 4 in the Green River,
1989 to 1991. 15
6. Relationship between Geometric-mean CPE and total number of YOY Colorado
squawfish within ISMP reaches (the sum of [Total CPE x Total Backwater Area]
for all 10-mile intervals within each reach) in the Colorado and Green rivers, 1989
to 1991. 16
Al. Geometric-mean and total catch per effort (CPE) of YOY Colorado squawfish, estimated
total number of Colorado squawfish, and total number and area of backwaters by 10-
mile subreach during fall ISMP monitoring in the Colorado River, 1989 (River miles
110-140 were not sampled [NS]). 1--Geometric-Mean CPE (Fish per 10 m2 seined), 2--
Total CPE (Fish per 10 m), 3--Estimated total number of Colorado squawfish ([Total
CPE per 10-mile reach] x [total area of backwaters in the reach]), 4--Total area of
backwaters (m), S--Total number of backwaters. 33
iv
?I
u
r,

1

L7
