' 4 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Upper Colorado River Basin Coordinating Committee established an Interagency <br />Standardized Monitoring Program (ISMP) for the endangered fishes of the Upper <br />Colorado River Basin. The species of concern to the ISMP are~Colorado squawfish <br />Ptychocheilus lucius and humpback chub Gila cypha. The ISMP involves the use of <br />standardized data collection techniques to assess the status and trends in <br />populations of the endangered Colorado River fishes. <br />Responsibility for development and implementation of the monitoring program is <br />shared by Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and the states of <br />Colorado and Utah. The states of Colorado and Utah are responsible for the <br />collection and computerization of the monitoring data, the Fish and Wildlife <br />Service provides assistance with field activities and technical support for data <br />analysis and report preparation, and the Bureau of Reclamation provides funding. <br />Complete details on agency responsibilities and specific sampling procedures are <br />available in the draft ISMP Handbook. <br />Three field programs are provided for in the ISMP: Spring, late-juvenile/adult <br />Colorado squawfish monitoring; Fa11 post-larval Colorado squawfish monitoring; <br />and humpback chub monitoring. This report provides a summary of activities and <br />results of the third year of the monitoring program. <br />1 <br />
