differences in habitat use among these species would probably be of little
practical value in management, however, because flows cannot be closely
regulated and the effect of a particular flow on habitat availability differs
among locations along the river.
Regardless of the outcome of these and similar investigations of habitat
' use, it will still remain for us to understand which of the sympatric species
' present important, problems for Colorado squawfish. Rigorously controlled
laboratory studies may be necessary. Such specific knowledge would allow us
to better focus our management efforts toward the goal of recovery of Colorado
squawfish in the Upper Colorado River Basin.
