Mean length was
30 mm in Reach 1, 37 mm in Reach 3, and 36 mm in Reach 4. In Reach 4, mean length was lower
than it was in 1992. Mean lengths in reaches 1 and 3 were about the same as was observed in 1992.
Fish as long as 74 mm were considered YOY in Reach 3 because there was no clear break in the
length-frequency distribution. The largest YOY collected from Reach 1 was 47 mm long and the
largest from Reach 4 was 59 mm. Four fish longer than 100 mm were collected-three in Reach 1
and one in Reach 3 (Table A-3).
~mpatric Species
Overall, more native species were collected than in previous years. The percentage of native
_ fishes in the first seine haul in primary backwaters (about one-fourth of all seine hauls taken)
consisting of native fishes increased in all four reaches from 1992 (Figure 6; Table A-5). However,
the increase was much greater in reaches 2 and 3 than it was in reaches 1 and 4. The large increase
in native species in Reach 3 was primarily because of larger numbers of Colorado squawfish, but also
reflected increased numbers of YOY suckers (Catostomus spp.). The substantial increase in Reach 2
primarily reflected increased numbers of YOY roundtail chub (Gila robusta).
5
0.1 10.1 Z0.1 sal 40.1 b0.1 4Q1 70.1 !0.1 90.1 100.1110.1
-a -20 -SO -40 -so -bo ao -so -90 -wo -110 -1zo
159.9 149.9 159.9 169.9
10-Mile Subreach
