Many backwaters in this portion of the reach aze indentations
in the many sand bars found throughout the lower Green River.
Reach 2-Reach 2 is the shortest and highest gradient reach sampled during the YOY Colorado
squawfish monitoring program. It runs from the mouth of the Gunnison River downstream about 37
miles to the Colorado-Utah state line. The reach drops an average of 5.6 ft/mi over its 37-mile
length. Cobble and rubble aze the predominant substrates and most backwaters are lazge and formed
at the mouths of side channels.
Green River
Reach 3-The lower reach in the Green River, Reach 3 extends from the town of Green River,
Utah, downstream about 120 miles to the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers (RM 0). The
upper portion of the reach is relatively high gradient, with predominately gravel or cobble substrates.
The lower portion of the reach is in a deep, meandering canyon, with relatively low gradient and
predominately sand and silt substrates.
4
3
