A total of 2,803 fish were handled during the investigation representing a range of life stages including young-of--year (YOB, juveniles and adults (Table 5). Of the total number of fish captured, 43% (1,210) were captured below the diversion structure and 57% (1,593) were captured above. Fish Tagged and Recaptured. A total of 1,344 fish representing 16 species were tagged during the study; 1,095 with Floy tags and 249 with PIT tags (Table 6). Of these, 631 (47%) were tagged above the diversion structure and 713 (53%) were tagged below the structure. Over 59% of fish tagged were white suckers or white sucker hybrids. Approximately 20% of tags distributed were to the three surrogate species including northern pike (193 tags, 14.4% of the total), flannehnouth sucker (71 tags, 5.2%) and roundtail chub (3 tags, 0.2%). A complete list of all fish tagged during the study is presented in Appendix C. A total of 265 fish were recaptured during the irrvestigation; 242 with Floy tags and 23 with PTT tags (Table 7). Recapture rates ranged from approximately 5% during Trip 1 to over 12% during Trip 5. The total recapture rate for the study was 25.8% above and 14.3% below the structure or an overall recapture rate of 19.7%. Movement of Tagged Fish. A total of 24 fish recaptured were documented moving over the structure during the study. One fish passed the structure twice resulting in a total of 25 documented movements over the structure. Eighteen of these movements were in an upstream direction and 7 in a downstream direction (Table 7). One fish passed upstream over the structure during Trip 1 at flows between 1440 and 1720 cfs. The majority of fish (14) moved aver the structure between the end of Trip 1 on April 27 and the end of Trip 2 on June 12, at flows ranging from 1460 to approximate peak flows for 1992 of 5,020 cfs (Table 12). One white sucker recaptured twice during Trip 2, had moved downstream over structure since Trip 1 then was recaptured one day later above the structure again. Three more fish that passed the structure were recaptured by the end of Trip 4 on September 28. One of these fish was tagged during Trip 1 and passed the structure during flows ranging from 134 to 5020 cfs. Two of the fish passed between Trip 2 and Trip 4 during flows of 134 to 2040 cfs. During Trip 5, seven fish were recaptured upstream of the structure that were tagged below the structure during Trip 4. All seven recaptures from Trip 5 had moved upstream over the structure between September 25 (Trip 4) and October 22 (Trip 5) during flows ranging from 224 to 155 cfs. A complete list of all fish tagged and recaptured with movement data is presented in Appendix B. Surrogate species including flannehnouth sucker and northern pike were associated with eight of the movements past the structure, including four upstream and four downstream. One flannelmouth sucker (PIT Tag 7F7D4C0331) moved downstream over the diversion between April 25 (Trip 1) and June 10 (Trip 2) at flows ranging from 1590 to 5020 cfs. A second flannelmouth sucker (PIT Tag 7F7D51744D) tagged below the diversion structure on September 25 (Trip 4) was recaptured above the diversion structure on October 22 (Trip 5), having passed the structure at flows ranging from 161 to 224 cfs. Three northern pike (Ploy Tags BF10095, BF10097, BF10205) passed downstream over the structure between April 26 (Trip 1) and June 11 (Trip 2) at flows ranging between 1440 to 5020 cfs. Two northern pike (Ploy Tags YF00021, YF00023) were tagged 0.2 miles downstream of the diversion structure on June 11 and recaptured the next day 0.2 miles above the structure. These fish moved over the structure at flows of approximately 1730 cfs. One northern pike was observed passing upstream over the structure between September 26 (Trip 4) and October 21 (Trip 5) at flows ranging from 161 to 183 cfs. 8 1 1
