*****DRAFT*****
the normal river flow is diverted from the river upstream. Although the
upstream reach is occurpied by adult-size Colorado squawfish, many of
these fish apparently use spawning areas downstream from the Gunnison
River--where conditions are more favorable. This movement might be in
response to the rapid loss of habitat in the upstream reach. Such
movement has been suggested by the results of radiotelemetry studies of
adult Coiorado squawfish (see Miller et al. 1982 and subsequent annual
reports).
The Colorado River reach upstream from the Gunnison River provides
habitat for adult-size razorback suckers; however, because we are unable
to definitively identify the larvae of this species, we can not at this
time determine if razorbacks succesfully reproduce in this reach.
References
Snyder, D.
