,DRAFT
1. Green River/Upper Colorado River subbasins.
The populations of Colorado squawfish in the Green River/Upper Colorado
River subbasins will be considered eligible for reclassification to
threatened when naturally self-sustaining populations are maintained in:
(a) the Green River basin including the Green River from its confluence
with the Colorado River upstream to Echo Park, the lower 220 km
(137.5 miles) of the Yampa River, and the lower 240 km (150 miles) of
the White River; and
(b) the Colorado River from Lake Powell upstream to Palisade, Colorado..
2. San Juan River subbasin.
The population of Colorado squawfish. in the San Juan River subbasin will
be considered eligible for reclassification to threatened when;
(a) downlisting of Colorado squawfish in .the Green River basin/Upper
Colorado River subbasins is accomplished; and
(b) a naturally self-sustaining population is maintained in the San Juan
River from Lake Powell upstream to the confluence of the Animas River
near Farmington, New Mexico.
Delisting Criteria
In order to delist the species, delisting criteria must be met in both the
Upper Basin (the Green River/Upper Colorado subbasins and the San Juan River
subbasin) and the Lower Ba-sin (the Salt or Verde rivers), given that future
evaluation concludes that establishment of a Lower Basin population is
feasible. If it is determined that establishment of a self-sustaining
population in the Lower Basin is infeasible, then species delisting will occur
when the Upper Basin populations have met delisting criteria. Delisting of the
populations can be done separately, but until the delisting criteria are met
for the entire species, these delisted populations may, as deemed appropriate,
remain classified as threatened due to similarity of appearance.
1. Green River/Upper Colorado River subbasins.
The Colorado squawfish will be considered eligible for delisting in the
Green River/Upper Colorado River subbasins when:
(a) downlisting criteria have been met in-the Green River/Upper Colorado
River subbasins and the San Juan River subbasin;-
(b) the threat of significant fragmentation (e.g., fragmentation that
would impair the reproductive success of the population or
limit/impact the adult population size) is removed;
22
