The purposes for obtaining information from public meeting
participants in 1994 were to:
(1) describe current attitudes and preferences of public
meeting participants regarding sport fisheries in
Wyoming, and
(2) evaluate possible changes in attitudes of public meeting
participants regarding fisheries management in Wyoming
since 1988.
A total of 224 responses were received from attendees at
public meetings. The number of attendees ranged from 47 at the
meeting in Dubois to one at the meeting in Greybull.
The characteristics of public meeting participants have
changed little since 1988. Participants are predominantly avid,
specialized and experienced anglers. Fishing for aesthetic
reasons seems to have increased, while fishing for harvest-
oriented reasons has decreased since 1988. Participants support
management for trophy and wild trout along with reduced creel
limits.

Comparison of three methods for contacting resident anglers

In 1994, three different techniques were used to contact
anglers for their views on fisheries management in Wyoming. The
purpose of this study was to assess possible differences in
angler responses among the three contact techniques in 1994
(random mail survey, Wyoming Wildlife News, and public meeting
participants) using the same questionnaire (Table E-4).
