waters, and catch and release only waters.
Responses from the Wyoming Wildlife News survey were
somewhere in between those of respondents to the resident mail
survey and attendees at public meetings. The demographics of
respondents to this survey (i.e., resident or nonresident,
management region, etc.) cannot be determined, so extrapolation
to the angling public is difficult. However, this survey
provides a means of contacting a wide array of anglers and can be
used to assess trends at a relatively low cost.
Since 1988, several changes have occurred among Wyoming
anglers: (1) there is slightly less participation in angling, (2)
less importance is being placed on fishing as part of overall
recreation, (3) anglers are becoming less experienced, and (4)
anglers place less value on harvesting fish, but more value on
aesthetic features of the recreational experience.
Values which have remained constant since 1988 include: (1)
fishing where the scenery is pleasant, (2) catching fish that are
good to eat, and (3) getting out with family and friends.
xx
