A total of 637 completed questionnaires from resident
anglers were obtained through the mail survey. A total of 1,459
completed forms that had been inserted into Wyoming Wildlife News
were returned. Attendees at public meetings completed 224
questionnaires. Responses from each of the three contact
techniques differed, therefore, the results are not
interchangeable. The most representative data were obtained
through the mail survey because a random sample of anglers was
contacted. Responses by attendees at public meetings were biased
toward motivated and specialized anglers. Angler responses to
the Wyoming Wildlife News survey were intermediate to the mail
survey and attendees at public meetings. All three surveys
provide indications of trends in angler attitudes, but the most
accurate results are obtained through mail surveys.
Written comments by anglers
Written comments on survey forms can be used by fisheries
managers to develop new ideas for management and identify the
concerns of anglers. They also provide the opportunity for
managers to focus on issues that would not otherwise be addressed
and to illucidate specific ideas for the management of certain
waters. A summary of the wide array of written comments received
on survey forms during 1994 is presented in Table E-5.
xvii
