and lures can be used or where catch and release fishing is
required.
Among resident anglers, the largest proportion used bait and
prefered to fish in family-oriented areas, whereas nonresident
anglers were primarily fly-fishers and prefered to fish in
wilderness settings. The resident angling community appears to
have changed from 1988 to 1994 in that there is slightly less
participation in angling, less importance placed on fishing as
part of overall recreation, anglers are becoming less
experienced, and anglers place less value on harvesting fish, but
more value is being placed on aesthetic features of the
recreational experience. While the angling community is
changing, a number of aesthetic and recreational values remain
important to Wyoming anglers including: fishing where the scenery
is pleasant, catching fish that are good to eat, getting out with
family and friends, and being able to relax and enjoy the
outdoors.
Public meetings
Anglers who attended public meetings, in 1988 preferred to
fish on "restricted limit waters" or "trophy waters" and
supported special regulations. Information such as this was used
to modify fisheries management activities by placing more
emphasis on special harvest lakes and streams throughout Wyoming.
xii
