Title of Proposal:
(for MC use)
CateQozv (check one):
X Ongoing project
Requested new start
_ Unsolicited project
outside funding
Green River Nursery Habitat Study: Effect of flows on availability and
quality of nursery habitat and how this effects the reproductive success
of Green River populations of the Colorado squawfish.
Ii. Relationship to Recovery Program/Ranking Factors:
Research, Habitat Management, monitoring of Colorado squawfish - help
determine flows and environmental facts associated with reproductive
success and early life survival of fishes in the Green River basin.
III. Study Goals, Objectives, End Product:
1) To learn the relationship between quality nursery habitat availability
and flows at recommended releases from the Flaming Gorge Dam.
2) To determine the relationship between habitat availability and habitat
utilization by Colorado squawfish (As measured by squawfish abundance).
3) To determine the usefulness of video imagery as a predictor of quality
habitat, or to refine interpretation of the video so that "quality"
nursery habitats can be distinguished, and thereby estimate the year class
strength of YOY squawfish. (i.e. How is habitat availability linked to
Colorado squawfish abundance?)
4) To compare intensive sampling data and the concept of habitat
utilization to standardized monitoring data to assess a) ways of refining
standardized monitoring procedures and b) ways of making greater use of
the data currently being collected.
5) To coordinate closely with further studies
Flaming Gorge Dam as they are developed to
pertinent data and avoid duplication of effort.
on the operation of the
ensure collection of all
C6
