Prior to 1960, water temperature and hydrology data at the
• fifteen USGS gaging stations in the system become scarce.
Therefore, techniques were developed to extend the flow record at
some vital gages. Gaging records for the Green- dale and Jensen,
Utah gages covering the period 1930 to 1950 and 1930 to
1946, respectively, were synthesized using simple linear
regression with the Green River at Green River gage which had ar
intact record from 1930 to 1959. Results of these regressions are
in Appendix A.
Extension of the meteorology data back to water year 1930 was
accomplished using the following data sources and techniques:
0
Meteorology data were obtained from the Grand Junction office of
the National Weather Service located at Walker Field. Telephone
contact was made with Mr. Darry Nubey, Director of the weather
station. Mr. Nubey arranged for his staff to make copies of the
original ledger from 1931 to 1943. This source provided
information on air temperature, wind speed, percent possible
sunshine, and relative humidity. The relative humidity values
were averaged to provide a daily value.
Data for the period October 1929 to December 1930 were created
using the means for the period 1931 to 1948. Data for the period
1949 to 1959 was obtained from Mr. Fred Theurer who obtained the
records from the National Weather service (exact source unknown).
The data is on file in the USFWS Regional Hydrologist office and
will be maintained for future reference.
Extension of the hydrology data base was accomplished as follows:
Gunnison
Cisco
White River Watson USGS gage records used.
Green River @ Gr. R.
Maybell
Little Snake Lily
Greendale Extended by regression with
Jensen Green River @ Green River.
Cameo USGS back to 1933. USBR
calculations of virgin flow,
Colo. River near Cameo, used
for 1930-32.
Duchesne
•
USGS back to 1942. USBR
calculations referenced
above used for 1930-41.
4
