Treat fish with an antibiotic for 3 days prior to PIT tagging to reduce potential disease
problems. A prophylactic treatment of Chloramine T immediately after tagging could be
beneficial as well.

2. Feed razorback diet prepared by Bozeman Fish Technology Center until fish reach 65 mm
in length. This reduces the amount of crippling and other deformities from nutritional
deficiencies.

3. Adjust pH and temperature of hatchery water to more closely approximate pH and
temperature of Horse thief pond water at spawning.

4. Reduce feeding rate at the hatchery prior to egg transfer to reduce toxic ammonia and
nitrite levels in hatchery water.

CLYMER'S GROW-OUT POND

1. The pond should be more closely monitored to quickly identify problems.

2. Water quality should be tested more frequently and screens should be checked for holes
and debris. The pond should be checked weekly for mortalities or moribund fish and
treated if signs of disease are found.

3. Supplemental feeding over the winter might increase fish survivorship.

-20-
