ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
This study was funded by the Recovery Implementation Program for Endangered Fish
Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin. The Recovery Program is a joint effort of the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Western Area Power Administration,
states of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, upper basin water users, environmental organizations,
and the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association. I would like to credit previous
researchers, particularly E. Wick and H. Tyus, who first suggested linkage of wetlands to
razorback sucker in the Upper Colorado River Basin and whose efforts were the impetus to
initiate this study. R. Muth and B. Haines graciously allowed the use of razorback sucker larval
collection data for use in the discussion and management recommendations. Pat Nelson, RIP
floodplain restoration coordinator, provided guidance and direction throughout the study.
Special thanks go to S. Brock and the staff ofthe Ouray National Wildlife Refuge for their
permission to work on the refuge and their help and assistance in planning and implementing the
study. Assistance in the field was provided by many during the three years, in particular N.
Hoskin, C. Flann, 1. Rosendale, D. Beers, B. Haines, and D. Irving. Personnel from the Utah
Division of Wildlife, K. Day, B. Sheffer, and G. Birchell provided needed assistance in collecting
fish during the draining of Old Charley Wash. My appreciation is extended to Drs. Peter Bayley,
Robert Muth, and Eugene Maughan for their time and .ertis".in reviewing this report.

DISCLAIMER

The opinions and recommendations expressed in this report are those of the author and do
not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the Recovery
Implementation Program.

Mention of trade names, commercial products, or firms and businesses does not constitute
endorsement or recommendation for use by the author, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S.
Department of Interior, or the Recovery Implementation Program.

2
